The most impressive day of our excursion ...
... in my opinion was our bus trip from Belfast to Derry/Londonderry along the coast way. Shortly after having left Belfast we reached the Glens of Antrim and were suddenly surrounded by green fields and hedges in every shade you can imagine. Except for the occasional villages or lonely cottages the countryside seemed to be inhabited by no one else but sheep.
Around midday we finally reached the Giant's Causeway and the view completely compensated for the ‘pain’ of sitting in a hot and uncomfortable bus for hours. The sun was burning down and with the salty smell of the sea blowing in our faces we stood at the steep coast looking down on these fascinating ancient stones. The walk downwards was quite long since the area was bigger than I had imagined but sitting at the Causeway we had the chance to take a sunbath before continuing our journey to the Bushmills’ Distillery where we tasted some fine Irish whiskey.
