Eye-Opening Murals
Seeing the murals in Belfast and Derry/Londonderry, I found them somehow fascinating and intimidating at the same time. The wall paintings give you an insight into the impact the last thirty years have had on the two cities and are important testaments in the history of conflict in Northern Ireland, because they show the roles Belfast and Derry played during “The Troubles.” It was also interesting to see that the kerbstones and lampposts are painted in the colours of the Union Jack (red, white and blue). I think the murals have definitely an eye-opening effect with the historical value and sort of culture they reveal.
